DescriptionA Slovak kroj consisting of a blouse, vest, skirt, apron, and headscarf. The blouse is white and has long, puffed sleeves. The upper half of each sleeve is covered with right orange and yellow cut work and embroidery. This is echoed at the cuffs, but in wolf's teeth designs. This is a protective symbol and thought to prevent evil spirits from affecting the wearer, especially when stitched around any opening on a garment. The blouse's collar is finely crocheted in orange and yellow threading. The off-white vest is covered with a colorful brocade. Its neckline, sleeves, and front are trimmed with plain red silk or satin. These bands are lined with gold metallic lace. Three intricate silver buttons run down each side of the front opening. The skirt and apron are nearly identical. Both are navy and covered with printed white batik designs. A large area of bright embroidery is stitched directly beneath the waistbands of both. This embroidery is primarily yellow and has orange, green, pink, and white accents. Both are fairly tightly pleated with a yellow ribbon covered with floral embroidery running down their centers. The only difference lies at their edges. Three lines of white embroidery are stitched across the apron's hem and up each side, along with white lace. The skirt has the same embellishments, but only across its hem. The kroj is finished with a red headscarf covered with floral print in yellow, purple, lavendar, light yellow, orange, green, and light green.
