DescriptionA kroj from Haná, Moavia that includes a bodice and three petticoats, skirt, apron, vest, headscarf, handkerchief and basket. The white bodice has a gathered ruffle around its bottom edge. One side is covered with white on white floral embroidery and cut work while the opposite side has two parallel rows of loops to be laced together for corset-like closure. All three petticoats are long and white with various kinds of lace around their hemlines. The skirt is also long and white with a gathered waistline and pleats. The kroj's apron is long and white, but has a band of yellow embroidery in floral designs across its width roughly six inches above its hemline. A row of evenly spaced floral designs lie between the band and hemline. Identical designs are evenly placed in three rows above the band as well. Fine white bobbin lace finished the hemline and travels up either side of the apron. In direct contrast to the skirt and apron, the vest is very colorful in a yellow brocade covered with floral designs in reds, tans and greens, and accented with gold metallic thread. Machine embroidered ribbon lines the neck and extends down the front to nearly its bottom edge. The design on the ribbon is floral and in red, dark blue and green threading. Yellow accents are embroidered on either side of the front opening, matching up with the five buttons. The outer edge of the ribbon is lined with metallic lace. The red headscarf features wide sections of floral print around its sides, leaving only a small square area in its center plain red. The print is in green, blue-green, gold, white and light blue. A white handkerchief with fine white bobbin lace around its edges accents the kroj. A row of golden yellow floral embroidery runs around its edges as well with a large, circular floral design in one corner that is accented with cut work and filled with fine netting in the same yellow threading. A white sash covered with machine embroidered with floral designs in dark blue, mauve and dark mauve, bright yellow and light green threading is worn at the waist. There is fringe at each end made of metallic cording. To finish the look are black leather shoes with one inch heels. Their tops and sides are decorated with white and red leather cut and affixed in a heart design. The sides also have columns of blue, yellow, green, white and red near the shoe's heel. The tongues aer covered with red leather and narrow pieces cut in a rick rack style run from the tongue to the bottom of the shoe. A length of red shoestring inserts through grommets for closure. The other accessory to this kroj is a cylindrical wicker basket with a braided handle and accenting. A series of fabric bows in red, white, blue and yellow decorate the basket and its lid.On View
