DescriptionA piece of a B-17 Bomber console mounted on a section of blue cardstock. The console is olive green with halves of circular holes on its top half where dials used to be. Two circular holes for switches lie on either side. Each has the outline of a box and labels: Alarm on, Bell off, Pitot on, Heat off, Pass on, Light off, Bomber on, Call off. There is one circular hole for a dial on the bottom half of the console, along with many small holes for switches. Two switches remain intact: HYD Pump Manual and Battery. There is a hexagonal piece affixed to the cardstock in the empty spot on the upper half that is yellow and bears the bomber's serial number and type, as well as its maker and other information. A small gold plaque lies beneath that reads "B-17 Bošáca, 29.august 1944". This console is part of a B-17 bomber that flew in the air battle on the Czech-Slovak border on August 29, 1944 in attempt to resist the invading German brigades. When the Nazis took the Slovak Republic, they continued the pursuit of the Final Solution and forced countless Slovaks Jews into labor and concentration camps.
