DescriptionA Slovak Fašiangy costume that combines elements of male and female traditional folk dress into one costume. Its blouse is white with a gathered collar and long sleeves. One of its cuffs has only white lace trim while other also has a length of red machine embroidered ribbon around it. There is a dark blue, white and green floral design covering ribbon. The vest has two different halves. One is made of dark wool with six red buttons down its front and a pocket on its lower half. Oddly enough, it also six button holes, one in between each of the buttons. The opposite side of the vest is red with seven button holes down its front. Yellow trim lined with mustard rick rack runs around its arm and neckline, and runs down its front. For the lower half of the wearer is first a pair of woolen pants that are off-white in color. They are decorated with yellow-green cording that is twisted into detailed floral and geometric patterns on fronts of its thighs and on each calf. Straight, red cording accents these designs. The pants are held closed with a leather belt that is decorated with imprinted geometric designs. It has a metal buckle with minimal embellishment. Over these, is a red skirt covered with a white floral print. It has a gathered waistline and red twill ties for closure. There is an extra length of twill tape to tie half of the skirt around one leg. Next is a navy blue apron with a pleated waistline. Faded, white polkadots run in a pattern along its bottom and in some other areas of the apron. Most of them have a hole poked through to the other side. The apron is held on with black twill ties. A white cuff with a gathered top and scalloped bottom is added to one sleeve to complete the look of a woman's blouse. The cuff's bottom half is covered with geometric designs formed from cut work and embroidery. A red scarf covered with a white, floral print is worn around the neck to complete the male side. A floral border runs around the scarf's edges. The costume has two headpieces: one is a piece of foam wrapped in stockinette. Strings of red beads are wrapped around the foam with a shock of dark brown hair sticking out of the end. The other is a black, felt hat with a rim around its bottom. A white feather is stuck through on its right side. Finally, two different boots are worn on the feet. A woman's black leather boot with a two inch heel is on the right foot.
