DescriptionA Slovak kroj consisting of a blouse, vest, petticoat, skirt, apron, sash, and cap.The blouse is off-white in color with puffed sleeves covered with a large embroidered panel and cut work. Identical embroidery lies around the cuffs and collar, down one side of the front opening, and around the bottom edge of the back. All embroidery is in bright orange and yellow threading. The vest is gold with a multi-colored floral brocade in dark purple, mauve, dark brick red, dark blue, and metallic gold threading. Yellow-gold machine embroidered ribbon lines its front, neckline, and arms. The embroidery is floral in dsign and in light orange, dark blue, and green threading. Metallic lace outlines and decorates the brocade sections of the vest. Three silver frog clasps lie on either side of the front opening. The frogs are decorated with colored beads (light green, pink, red, and green). The ecru petticoat is tightly pleated and gathered at the waist. The black skirt is tightly gathered with beige floral embroidery around its lower half. Decorative gold stitching lies beneath the embroidery. The hemline is finished with light orange rick rack and wide bobbin lace. The apron is also black and tightly gathered with beige floral embroidery around its lower half and up each side. Decorative gold stitching accompanies the embroidery. The hemline and sides are finished with light orange rick rack and wide bobbin lace. The sash is gold in color and covered with machine embroidered floral designs in bright red, dark mauve, dark blue, dark purple, white, and bright green threading. Its ends are finished with metallic fringe. The finishing touch to this kroj is an off-white cap with bright orange and yellow embroidery and cut work on its back and across its top. The same embroidery frames the face with wolf's teeth, thought to protect the wearer from evil spirits. Its bottom edge is gathered with twill tie woven through a series of string loops.
