Mediumtextile
DescriptionA Slovak kroj consisting on a blouse, vest, skirt, apron, cap, and headband. The blouse is made from an off-white or cream, woven fabric. It has a gathered neckline and cuffs at the ends of long sleeves. The collar is also woven, but in red, dark green, and ecru yarn. The cuffs are finished in the same colors. A small panel of floral embroidery lies at the top of each sleeve. The stitching is in bright orange, yellow, and grey-blue threading. The red wool vest is decorated with two different kinds of ribbon. One is woven and striped in red, green, gold, white, and blue threading. The other is gold machine embroidered ribbon. The ribbons are sewn onto the vest front in a vertical design and in a rick rack style pattern on the back. The skirt is made from an off-white or cream, woven fabric that matches the blouse. It is tightly pleated and a pocket made from a woven, ecru fabric has been added onto its front. The very dark navy apron is covered with a white batik floral pattern. It has long, woven ties that are striped in multiple colors. The kroj is finished with a cap and headband that are worn together. The cap is made from an off-white, woven fabric. It is covered with red, dark green, and ecru yarn arranged in both floral and geometric designs. Scalloped, woven edging of the same thin yarn frames the face of the wearer and its bottom edge is adjusted to the wearer with a white ribbon drawstring. The headband is very firm and thick, and is worn under the cap to give it shape.
