DescriptionA Moravian kroj consisting of a blouse and vest, skirt and apron, a sash and a cap. The blouse is white with puffed elbow sleeves. Its neckline is slightly gathered and its sleeves are gathered at the shoulders. Cut work and black floral embroidery runs around the center of each sleeve, and around the cuffs. Black and white bobbin lace decorate the cuff edges. There is red cross-stitching around the top of the cuff where it is gathered and meets the sleeve. The red vest has green inserts covered with a tan, beige, dark red and pink floral print. They are outlined with two types of wound cording, one blue and one pink. A row of silver sequins and beads runs in between the cording. Six gold buttons down front run down the front of the vest. An intricate butterfly is molded into each one. Three red circles decorated with embroidery lie in the center of the vest's back side. They are all outlined with silver cording, sequins and beads. Next is a red wool skirt covered with vertical stripes of embroidery that alternate between one ecru floral stripe and three geometric lines in dark ecru, yellow and cream. Its white waistband is covered with red floral and geometric embroidery. A line of silver beads lined with light pink and yellow-green cording runs around its bottom side. Over the skirt, is a black apron with a wide band of floral and geometric embroidery around its bottom. The band expands upward in the center to within six inches of the waistband. The embroidered designs are stitched in red, green, yellow and cream-colored threading. A single vertical line of red and cream-colored stitching runs down the center of the apron. White bobbin lace with pale salmon accents runs across the apron's hemline and its waistband is covered with embroidered geometric patterns. A white, rectangular collar covered with cut work and black floral embroidery is worn around the neck and shoulders. White and black bobbin lace inserts separate the different lines of embroidery, culminating with black and white, scalloped bobbin lace around three of its four edges. The top edge is plain white and roughly one and half inches shorter on either side from the rest of the collar. A white sash covered with pink, dark blue, bright yellow and green machine embroidery goes around the waist. The kroj is finished with a white cap that is gathered over its crown and down each side. Its front is covered with red, dark mauve, dark and royal blue, yellow, orange and green floral embroidery that is accented with silver sequins and beads. White lace runs around its face, and lines of multi-colored beading and cording finish top edge of lace. A white ribbon covered with pink, dark blue, bright yellow and green machine embroidery is tied into a bow at bottom of its back side.
