DescriptionA Slovak kroj that consists of a blouse and vest, bodice, skirt and apron, choice of two caps and a shawl. The blouse is very short with long, puffed sleeves. Most of each sleeve is covered with burnt orange embroidery and cut work. The cuffs and collar are tightly gathered, and the neckline is finished with braided cording. Its black velvet vest is covered with brightly colored floral designs in tambour embroidery. A length of metallic silver lace is affixed on either side of the front opening and covers their top halves. A purple insert covered with a multi-colored brocade lies on either side of the front. The inserts are lined with red rick rack, as is the larger insert on the back. The woven bodice that is worn under the blouse is decorated with white floral designs in vertical rows. There are cream-colored, woven straps affixed on its top side. The kroj's long, black skirt has a line of red and white cording lining the underside of its waistband. A row of floral tambour embroidery runs around its hemline with another roughly six inches above. Hot pink rick rack finishes the hemline. An upside down "L" of tambour stitching lies just under the waistband on the front side of the skirt. A small floral design is stitched beneath its intersection. It apron is also long and black with a tightly gathered waistline under a waistband of brown and metallic silver embroidery. Rows of pink and yellow cording, sequins, and red and white cording run around the underside of the waistband. The apron's hemline is scalloped and decorated with floral and geometric tambour embroidery. A wide row of larger floral designs lies roughly two inches above the hemline. This embroidery continues up both sides of the apron, along with dark blue rick rack and the decorated, scalloped edges. A colorful floral design lies in both of the apron's bottom corners. One may choose from two caps when wearing this kroj. One is a floral lace cap decorated with cut work, pink and yellow embroidery, and silver sequins with dark blue beads. A band of winding, metallic silver cording with red backing runs down the center of its back side. A wide, teal ribbon covered with salmon, white, yellow and sea green machine embroidered flowers runs across the bottom of the back with two tails hanging down. The face is framed with silver beads and a row of matching cording. Behind them are a row of winding, black and purple cording with clusters of silver beads, and another row of the silver cording. The other is also a floral lace cap decorated with cut work, but it only sparsely accented with red and blue embroidery. The face is framed with black velvet that is covered with multi-colored, floral embroidery. Tiny loops of clear beads line the face-side of the velvet. The ribbon hanging from its back side is white and covered with machine embroidered floral patterns in dull orange, golden yellow, dark blue, teal blue, dark red and sea green threading. Finally, the kroj is finished with a black shawl that is largely unembellished. A roughly eighteen inch section at either end is covered with multi-colored floral embroidery. The border flowers are accented with cut work. The border itself is all cut work in the form of double rows finished in different colors that change as they move around the scallops they create.
