DescriptionA Čičmany kroj consisting of a skirt, apron, sash, blouse, neck bow, headballs, cap, headscarf, and handkerchief. The tightly pleated skirt is made of white cotton, and has a gold and white embroidered waistband. The apron is white and covered with orange and yellow/gold floral embroidery. Its waistband is also embroidered, but with heart shapes. A horizontal band of cut work is incorporated into the floral design roughly halfway down the apron. White bobbin lace runs across its hem and up each side. The sash is a simple red knit with fringe at each end. The blouse is white with a pleated front and back. Its neckline, shoulders, and cuffs are covered with decorative stitching in gold, orange, and dark green threading. The neck and cuffs are also trimmed with white bobbin lace. This kroj has a decorative bow made of yellow ribbon covered with floral embroidery in blue, red, white, and green threading to be worn at the neck. The kroj's headpiece consists of three elements - headballs, a cap, and a headscarf (worn in that order). The headball element is made up of two stuffed cloth balls attached to one another with two lengths of twill tape. The cap is made of crocheted white thread. A drawstring runs around its bottom edge to provide its shape when worn. The finishing headscarf is white with geometric cut work and embroidery in orange and yellow/gold threading along one side. The stitching turns at one corner, but only continues a short distance. The headscarf is tied around a small cap with headballs when worn. Finally, this kroj is accented with a white woven handkerchief decorated with floral and geometric embroidered designs. The stitching is in green, orange, red, yellow, and blue threading. The design also incorporates cross-stitching, with blanket-stitching around the handkerchief's edges. On View
