DescriptionA woman's kroj from Bohemia that consists of blouse and vest, bloomers, a skirt and apron, a shawl, handkerchief and cap. The blouse is white with orange embroidery around the collar and cuffs, and across the shoulders. It has a wide bobbin lace collar and cuffs on its puffed sleeves. The blue vest that has two lines of grommets up its back with red and blue ribbons laced through. Many stays are inserted in the vest from front to back and each one is accented with yellow, pink and green stitching. Identical stitching runs around the top of the vest and up each arm. There is pleated white fabric sewn around the bottom of the vest with a stuffed bustle across the bottom of its back side. An oddly shaped panel of blue fabric matching the kroj's vest attaches just over its front opening. There are stays sewn into its center with a line of grommets on either side. Red and blue ribbons are laced through and woven together. The panel's edges are accented with yellow, pink and green stitching. The kroj also includes a pair of white bloomers that is basically a narrow, gathered waistband with two legs, separate from one another, sewn around its bottom side. Four narrow pleats and bobbin lace decorate the bottom of each leg. The kroj's off-white skirt has horizontal red stripes around its back and sides while its front remain plain off-white fabric. Its waistline is gathered. Its navy blue apron is covered with floral embroidery in beige threading. The shawl is white with bobbin lace along its bottom that extends a few inches onto its top side. The shawl is V-shaped with the widest point at the bottom of the V. This point is decorated with floral cut work and embroidery. A line of cut work circles and alternating flowers and hearts runs along the bottom edge of the shawl, culminating in a larger design at each end. The handkerchief is also white with delicate bobbin lace around all of its edges. Finally, the kroj's cap is made of white lace that is covered with geometric designs in fabric, cut work and embroidery. Delicate bobbin runs around its face and it has a drawstring base.On View
