DescriptionA kroj from Bohemia consisting of a blouse and vest, a skirt, a choice of two aprons and shawls, a headband and cap, and a pair of stockings. The blouse is white with puffed elbow sleeves and a slightly gathered neckline. The sleeves are gathered at the shoulders. Cut work, lace and white floral embroidery decorate the blouse's drawstring cuffs. The kroj's cream-colored vest is covered with a metallic gold floral brocade. The grommets all down its back side are laced together with wound, gold cording. There are also seven grommets on either side of front opening. A gold brocade strap covered with floral goldwork, beads, sequins and garnets crosses over the front and snaps into place. The bottom edge of the vest is cut into large scallops with light blue trim. The blue skirt is covered with a blue and silver floral brocade. It is very full and has a gathered waistline. The two lace aprons are very similarly decorated with cut work and white embroidery. They both have a gathered waistline, and scalloped hemlines and sides. The a white lace shawls also share many of the same characteristics, such as white floral embroidery and scalloped sides that are finished with embroidery. Both shawls are triangular in shape as well. The kroj's white headband features a woven cream-colored band sewn across its front side. The band is covered with metallic gold floral and geometric embroidery. The designs are accented with gold sequins and garnets. The bottom edge of the band has a wide scallop to it and is lined with white lace. The white headband on either side of the band expands towards its ends, as if part of a bow. The edges of both sides are trimmed with white lace. The white cap is covered with white floral embroidery and cut work. Wide and delicate bobbin lace runs around the face and it has a drawstring back. There is a large white bow finished with cut work and white embroidery on the cap's back side. Its tails are nearly covered with floral designs formed by embroidered cut work. Finally, the kroj is completed with a pair of white woven stockings.On View
