DescriptionA child's Slovak kroj consisting of a blouse, vest, petticoat, skirt, apron and sash. The cream-colored blouse has a tightly gathered collar that is covered with colorful floral tambour embroidery and cut work. The collar's outer edge is finished with red and blue bobbin lace cut to have a wolf's teeth edge. Both sleeves are nearly covered with red and yellow floral embroidery and cut work designs. Matching designs run around both of its scalloped cuffs. The kroj's dark red vest is covered with a white floral brocade. Its front side is decorated with vertical lengths of silver cording and ribbon, as well as white machine embroidered ribbon featuring red and dark blue flowers, surrounded by dark green leaves and stems. Five gold buttons run down the left side of the front opening. Two arches of silver lace adorn the back side. The white petticoat has a gathered waistline and a loose ruffle around its bottom. The black skirt and apron are largely the same. Both have a tightly pleated waistline beneath a white waistband that is covered with a red and blue floral print. Colorful tambour stitching sewn into floral designs decorates most of of their lower halves. The stitching is teal-blue, hot pink, orange, green and rust-colored. Wide, white bobbin lace runs across both hemlines. The continuation of the stitching and lace up both sides of the apron is the only real difference between the two. The final element of the kroj is a cream-colored, woven sash that is covered with burnt yellow geometric designs. Lace of the same color runs along both of its sides and there is a short fringe at both ends.On View
