DescriptionA Moravian kroj consisting of a blouse and vest, two petticoats, a skirt and apron, collar, sash, and headwreath. Its blouse is white with black cross-stitching around its high collar. A short line of black cross-stitching runs down from the collar. A scalloped edge decorated with black embroidery and white cut work lies to the left of the stitching. The blouse has sheer, puffed sleeves with white lace around its cuffs. Black floral embroidery accented with cut work, and a narrow line of cut work and geometric design run around the cuffs as well. There is a line of straight stitching over the top of the sleeves at the shoulders. Lengths of narrow, white lace are sewn beneath both sleeves. The red vest has white inserts that are lined with iridescent, white sequins. Two arrangements of light blue flowers are embroidered on both sides of the vest's front side. The flowers have white stems and green leaves, as well as one long, yellow line of stitching. Five red and gold buttons run down the left side of the front. A 3-looped design rests in the center of its back side with matching floral embroidery, stems, and leaves on either side. Five dark blue and four hot pink flowers are embroidered beneath the 3-looped design. The two petticoats are largely similar, both white in color and with tightly gathered waistlines. Both have lace around the hemlines, but one is made of cut work fabric.Over the petticoats is a red woolen skirt with three lines of embroidered flowers across its width. The flowers are white with dark purple centers, sea green stems and leaves, and branches of yellow buds. Four straight lines of white stitching lie in between the bottom and center lines of flowers. The skirt has a white machine embroidered waistband with woven white and metallic gold cording beneath. Next is a black velvet apron with bands of colorful floral embroidery across its lower half. The band in the center is stitched over a narrow, white background. Its hemline and sides are finished with white edging. Twisted and winding green cording, accented with sequins, lines the bottom of the waistband. A white collar with black and white bobbin lace around three sides is worn around the neck. Nearly all of the collar is covered with floral designs made of cut work, and white and black embroidery. A piece of pink fabric is attached beneath the collar so it shows through the cut work. The kroj is accessorized with a white sash and fauz flower headwreath. The sash is covered with red, blue, and yellow floral designs that are surrounded by green leaves and yellow wheat. Its ends are folded and sewn into points. The headwreath is an arch shape of white daisies, red poppies, blue cornflowers, and yellow flowers. One large hot pink flower sits at its top with five lily of the valley stems and one peach-colored flower. Green leaves compliment the daisies at the bottom of the arch.Credit LineGift of Eileen and the late Josef Mandát of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada
