DescriptionPart of a man's wedding kroj from Moravia consisting of a shirt and vest, a pair of pants with a belt, a necktie, musla, handkerchief, hat, and boots. The shirt is white with long, sheer sleeves and intricate red embroidery around the collar. The designs continue beneath the collar in an "L" shape. Four white machine embroidered ribbons lie at the collar for closure. The sleeves are covered with sections of floral embroidery and cut work. A wide band of white bobbin lace runs around the cuffs. Its green vest is edged in salmon fabric and cording. There are two kinds of cording; one is red and metallic silver, and the other is a winding silver cording. A line of tiny beads strung into scallops runs around the bottom edge of the vest and continues around the center of the back, which is decorated with floral embroidery that is framed with the winding silver cording and silver leaves. Three pink pearl buttons are affixed across the bottom center. Both kinds of cording and a line of sequins decorate either side of the vest's front side. A white, ruffled ribbon runs down either side of the front opening, along with sequins. The pair of red woolen pants is decorated with large dark blue geometric and floral designs made of cording and embroidery cover the top half of its front side. The designs continue around to the back, just under the waistband. Wider cording and lines of thin cording wind down the sides of the legs. A cluster of small leaves is embroidered at each peak along the way. There is a red strap at the bottom of each pantleg. Around the waist is a belt made of tan leather that is covered with decorative silver grommets arranged in vague designs. It has a silver buckle and a piece of thin, red cording tied at its end. A red brocade necktie with large gold/silver machine embroidered flowers even spaced along its length is worn around the neck. Each one is surrounded by green leaves, dark blue, dark purple, and either orange or white flowers. A woven fringe lies at its ends and also runs up its underside for a few inches. A piece called a musla is pinned to the groom's shoulder. It is a half-circle covered with pink and white ribbons, a multi-colored faux floral arrangement affixed to its front side. Four ribbons hang down from beneath it; two white and two pink. The pink ribbons are hand painted with bouquets of pink flowers and metallic gold wheat. Each one has yellow-green leaves and stems. Golden swirls are painted across the scalloped edges at their ends. The kroj is further accessorized with a sheer, white handkerchief with cut work circles around its edges. Each corner is covered with white embroidery and cut work in floral designs. On the head is a black felt hat with a woven, multi-colored band around its crown. Two lengths of white and green cording wrap around the woven band and a row of beaded flowers surrounded by beaded lines bent into scallops run around the top edge. Groups of three beaded strands of thread are evenly spaced around the woven band. A tall cluster of faux flowers and circles of beads is affixed to the front of the hat. Ribbons and pipe cleaners lie at the base of the cluster. Long stems of white flowers and sticks of yellow puffballs sit atop it, along with two long white feathers. Small, square mirrors are also scattered throughout the cluster. Finally, the kroj is completed with a pair of black leather knee boots with short heels.
