DescriptionA kroj from Trnava consisting of a petticoat, blouse with separate cuffs and collar, vest, skirt, apron, and a headband. The petticoat is white with a tightly gathered waist and drawstring ties. Its hemline is scalloped and embroidered with red and blue flowers. The blouse is made of thin, white cotton and has a drawstring neck. Its elbow-length sleeves are covered with goldwork accented with sequins. There are two separate cuffs, each having an embroidered inset accented with goldwork. Their tops gathered with a drawstring to be tied around the wearer's arms.The white lace collar is attached to a neckband with gold embroidery and a large, white silk bow is affixed to its front. The bow is covered with goldwork and sequins, its ends trimmed with gold fringe. The vest is made of two different blue floral fabrics. One is blue with a multi-colored brocade and the other, a multi-colored floral print. Its back is trimmed with silver ribbon arranged in a scroll pattern. Three black yarn frogs provide closures down its front. The skirt is in a deep rose brocade with a wine-colored brush braid trim. Its front is a gray fabric. The apron is made of midnight blue silk with floral embroidery lining its bottom edge and sides. The embroidery is in blue, red, orange, white, and green. The narrow headband made of white silk and decorated goldwork flowers finishes the kroj. A headband was typically worn by an unmarried woman.
Goldwork is created by cutting pieces of leather or cardboard and wrapping them with metallic gold wire threading.On View
