Kroj

Object number2015.034.0001-3
Mediumtextile
DescriptionA man's kroj from Detva, Slovakia including a shirt, pants and belt. The shirt is very short, but has long sleeves. Intricate geometric embroidery in dark blue, yellow, light salmon and green (identical to pants) lies around the cuffs and shoulders. Two bands of embroidery and one of white bobbin lace cover the shoulders. Identical embroidery also runs down both sides of the shirt's front opening with white and black twill tape at neck for closure. The long, white pants are essentially bell-bottoms. The bottom of each leg is lined with a short fringe and intricate geometric embroidery in dark blue, yellow, light salmon and green threading. The waistband is quite large and gathers to accommodate any size. The leather belt completes this kroj. It is heavily decorated with geometric designs running its length and a big, brass buckle with two prongs for closure. The buckle is cut to have designs formed from half-circles and small triangles. Tiny star-shaped designs are also scattered throughout its surface.
