DescriptionA Slovak kroj consisting of a blouse and vest, pettiocat, skirt and apron, collar and a cap. The white blouse has a gathered neckline and puffed sleeves. The sleeves are decorated with a large floral design embroidered in yellow and orange threading, and accented with cut work. Matching designs are stitched around the blouse's scalloped cuffs. A deep maroon vest that is covered with a brick red floral brocade is worn over the blouse. White machine embroidered ribbon runs around vest's neckline and arms, and down its front. The ribbon's embroidery features colorful floral designs in hot pink, bright yellow, dark blue, purple and green threading. The ribbon is lined with silver lace that also extends down the back of the vest. Three large buttons lie on either side of the front opening. Each one has a circular base with a delicate metal cone shape on its top. The white petticoat features a gathered ruffle over its lower half. The ruffle is in three layers, each with a different embellishment to its hemline. The top layer has white scalloped bobbin lace around its hemline, the middle layer has straight bobbin lace, and the bottom has no lace. The petticoat has a drawstring waistline with twill ties. The skirt and apron are largely the same. Both are black roughly two and a half inches of gathering around the waistline. White/grey floral embroidery runs across their bottoms with two lines of rick rack above and below (bright yellow and white). Both hemlines are finished with white bobbin lace. The only difference between the two is that the embroidery, rick rack and lace extend up both sides of the apron. The kroj's collar is white with a scalloped wolf's teeth design. Each tooth is covered with yellow and orange embroidery and cut work. A length of wide, yellow rick rack is sewn across its top and attached to a narrow, white machine embroidered ribbon. The ribbon's floral embroidery is stitched in salmon, purple, dark blue, yellow and light green threading. The neckline of the collar is made up of gathered rick rack. Finally, a white cap that is covered with yellow and orange embroidery and cut work completes this kroj. Like the collar, a wolf's teeth design runs around its face.Credit LineBarbara Yuhas Estate
