DescriptionA Slovak kroj that consists of a choice of two shirts, pants, vest, hat, belt and shoes. One is a plain, white shirt with long sleeves and white geometric embroidery around the collar. There are white twill ties at the neck. The other is also white with long sleeves, but has colorful floral cross-stitching around the collar. There are white twill ties at its neck. A floral design is embroidered on the front placket in bright orange, mauve, yellow-green and royal blue threading. The black felt vest has two pockets on its front, each decorated with three silver studs. Three vertical rows of the same studs run down either side of the front. Its collar is folded down at the top to reveal red felt with black stitching. Three more studs fasten it down each side. The kroj's pants are made of cream-colored wool and are decorated with braided green cording down the outside of each pantleg. There is red cording on either side of the green cording for bottom ten inches of each pantleg. Two sparse tassles lie at the top. There is a flap at the center of the waistband with red and green cording decorating both sides. On the head is a black hat with a wide brim. White and red cording are twisted together and placed around the bottom of the crown. The ends are tied at the back with the tails hanging down and unraveled into tassles. A light tan leather belt with a brass buckle wraps around the waist. A short pieces of leather is decoratively woven through five holes next to the buckle. A longer length of leather is looped around the opposite end of the belt. There are five holes just off its center for cosure. A pair of leather shoes completes this kroj. They are light tan leather shoes decorated with faunal pressings, cut and weaving. One side of each shoe's front is braided with a leather strap that weaves across the top and around the whole shoe. A long leather strap attaches the right side of each shoe to the left, winding around to the back of the shoe to pull tight. The straps then wind around each leg of the wearer.On View
