DescriptionA Trnava kroj consisting of two petticoats, a blouse, two cuffs, a skirt, apron, and a selection of collars and caps. There are two petticoats with this kroj. Both are starched, white cotton. One is wrap-around style and has a small flounce is near its hem, which is trimmed with triangular lace trim. The other has a scalloped hemline that is trimmed with pink, white, and gold embroidery. The blouse is white and has elbow-length sleeves that are embroidered with metallic gold threading. Blue fabric is affixed to the inside of each sleeve to give it some color. A strip of fabric has been added to the bottom of the blouse. This is most commonly done to make a blouse longer to accommodate changes in its wearer's body. The blouse's detatchable cuffs are made of off-white lace that is decorated with metallic goldwork in floral designs. the silky, beige brocade skirt has beige brush braids at its hem. Blue-gray cotton panels make up its front side. (Common practice with skirt since the front is typically covered by an apron.) The skirt is tightly gathered at the waist. The apron is made of heavy, black fabric. Its bottom edge and sides are finished with green edging and floral embroidery in green, blue, red, purple, pink, and gold. There are three collars with this kroj. Two are virtually identical lace collars with a gold and silver metal embroidered neckbands. The other is only the gold and silver metal embroidered neckband. There are two caps with this kroj and each is embellished with a bow of goldwork at its nape. Finally, a beige bow made of a fine brocade fabric is pinned at the throat of the blouse. A small rosette with pale blue and yellow flowers and thin ribbon tails is affixed to the bow. The ribbons are trimmed with silver fringe.
Goldwork is a technique in which metal threading is wound around pieces of cut leather of cardboard. The finished piece is then affixed to a garment. On View
