DescriptionA Piešt’any kroj consisting of a blouse, vest, skirt, apron, cap, and two sashes. The white blouse has puffed sleeves that are covered with cut work and embroidery in dark orange and yellow threading. Its collar and cuffs decorated with the same cut work and embroidery, and are in a wolf's teeth pattern. This pattern was often placed around the collar or cuffs on a blouse to act as a protective element for its wearer. A section of orange tatted and embroidered (including hardanger, or whitework, embroidery) runs most of the way down the blouse's front. The vest is in a yellow, damask-patterned fabric decorated with silver metalic trim on its front and back. Three silver-colored frogs run down its front. The frogs have colored glass insets in garnet, emerald, and ruby color. The skirt and apron virtually are identical in a shiny, black cotton with a tightly gathered waist. The lower half of both is covered with floral embroidery, embroidered lace, and embroidered ribbon. The hem itself is trimmed with off-white lace. The only difference between the two is that all of the embellishments across the bottom are on both sides as well. The kroj's cap is made of white cotton that is nearly covered with cut work and yellow, orange, green, and pink embroidery. The face is framed with wolf's teeth in the same cut work and embroidery. Wolf's teeth is a design that was often sewn around the face of a cap to act as a protective element to its wearer. The kroj is finished with two sashes. One is black and covered with floral embroidery in red, white, blue, and green threading. The other is yellow and covered with machine embroidery in floral designs. The threading for the designs is in red, blue, and green. On View
