DescriptionA Hel'pa kroj consisting of a shirt, vest, and a pair of pants. The white shirt is nearly covered with intricate floral and geometric cross-stitching (on its front). The stitching is primarily red with pink, blue, orange, green. and brown. Identical stitching is at each cuff and around its collar. Red embroidery lies at each shoulder. The vest is made of brown leather and covered with vertical stripes in gold and light green. Bands of tiny cut circles in the same colors lie around the bottom of the vest. There is a fairly plain pocket on each side of the vest front. The vest back is dominated by a large design created from cut circles and ovals of red, turquoise, and gold. The vest is lined with coarse fur. The pants are made of off-white wool trimmed with red cording from the knees down. A pink, green, orange/yellow, and red puffball is affixed at the top of this cording. The same cording also trims two openings at the front of the waistband, as well as a pocket.
Birds are incorporated into the floral and geometric design of the cross-stitching on the shirt. Their symbolism is two-fold in that birds promise a good harvest and prosperity, and also embody the concept of love, marriage, and motherhood. On View
