DescriptionA woman's wedding kroj from Moravia consisting of a blouse with separate cuffs, a vest, skirt and apron, collar, and cap. The white blouse has sheer sleeves that are large and puffed sleeves. Thin white lace runs around the cuffs. Both cuffs and neckline are gathered with white twill tape. The white brocade vest is decorated with large, gold and silver flowers that are surrounded by bright green leaves. Dark purple, dark salmon, dark mauve, and orange flowers are also around the larger flowers. Most of the vest is covered with ruffled ribbons and cording. Lines of beading lie amongst the ribbons on the vest's back side. Sequins and small flowers made of tiny blue beads run along the bottom edge. The sequins continue up either side of the front opening and one button lies at each bottom corner. At the end of each sleeve is a white lace cuff with a wide band of bobbin lace with a scalloped edge runs around the bottom half. A band of white embroidery and cut work makes up its top half. Its top edge is gathered with white twill tape. The kroj's skirt is pale pink-purple and covered with a floral brocade. Metallic silver thread is woven horizontally into the fabric. A section of eleven closely folded pleats run around the bottom roughly four and a half inches up from its hemline. The skirt is tightly gathered around the sides and back of its waistband and has a flat front. The rectangular apron is made of sheer fabric and covered with wide bands of floral designs made of embroidery and cut work. It is lined on three sides with a band of white embroidered cut work and wide floral bobbin lace with a scalloped edge. Its waistline is gathered with white twill tape. Similarly, its collar is also made of sheer fabric that is covered with floral and geometric designs made of white embroidery and cut work. A wide band of bobbin lace with a scalloped edge runs around three of its four sides. The kroj is finished with a red brocade cap that is decorated with large gold or silver flowers surrounded by green leaves. There are dark purple or dark blue flowers, as well as small silver flowers around the larger flowers. A wide, white ribbon is wrapped around the cap with four loops on its top and two long tails hanging down from its back side.Handpainted floral designs accented with gold and silver sequins decorate the ribbons. The ends of the ribbons are painted with gold.
