DescriptionA kroj from Slovakia that includes a blouse, vest, collar, petticoat, skirt, apron and three sashes. The blouse is white with puffed, elbow-length sleeves and lace at each cuff. Over the blouse is a white brocade vest with light blue ribbon edging around its arms and neckline, and down its front opening. A column of yellow beads lies on either side of its front opening, as well as six silver hooks. A length of light blue ribbon laces around the hooks for closure with a hook and eye closure beneath the lowest of the hooks. The back side of the vest is heavily decorated with beads and sequins in geometric and floral designs. The collar is made with white lace and three layers of gathered white ribbon. A layer of pleated lace runs around the collar's bottom edge. A row of short gathered lace lies around its top with rows of beads and metallic cording accenting the ribbons. The kroj has a plain, white petticoat with a gathered waistline and wide pleats. A length of white bobbin lace runs around its hemline. The black skirt is covered with a floral print in pink and dark pink, red, yellow and green. It has gathered at waist and wide pleats and a narrow strip of white twill tape around its hemline. The apron directly contrasts the skirt with its white, silky fabric and wide band of brightly colored flowers painted across its width just under center. The design is hot pink, dark mauve, light blue, golden yellow, dark yellow, white, yellow-green and green. The kroj has two identical sashes that are covered with brightly colored flowers in hot pink, dark mauve, light blue, golden yellow, dark yellow, white, yellow-green and green paint. Its ends are scalloped and painted with gold enamel. The third sash is more narrow and is covered with painted floral designs that alternate with gold enamel dots painted in circular patterns. The floral designs are in hot pink, light pink, light blue, dark yellow, white, yellow-green, green and black paint. The sash's ends are scalloped and painted with gold enamel.On View
