DescriptionA Blata kroj consisting of a blouse and vest, skirt and apron, two pettiocats and a cap. The blouse is made of white cotton and linen. It has puffed sleeves, and a drawstring neck and waistline. Parts of it are starched. Its shoulders, cuffs, and flounce collar are adorned with multi-colored seed beads and white on white embroidery. White bobbin lace trims its collar and cuffs. The vest is made of black trimmed with metallic ribbons and sequins, as well as simple stitches in red, yellow, pink, and blue. The back has red and yellow lacing down its center, and colorful floral embroidery on either side. The front has eyelet holes and a yellow cord for lacing. The skirt is also made of black wool that is gathered at the waist. Wide, dark green rick rack is sewn around its bottom and a wide length of machine embroidered ribbon is affixed horizontally in roughly the center of the skirt. The ribbon is green with a floral design in yellow, pink, lavender, and blue. Metallic gold cording lies just above the ribbon. The kroj's white apron that is gathered at waist and heavily starched. It is covered with tulle inserts and multi-colored seed beads, as well as silver sequins. All of these embellishments are arranged into a variety of geometric shapes, largely circular and heart shapes. The tulle insets are decorated with white on white embroidery. White bobbin lace trims its hem and sides, as well as its tie ends. The two petticoats are largely the same. They are made of white linen decorated with cut work and white on white embroidery. The waistlines are heavily gathered. Both petticoats were made for a married woman's kroj. Finally, the cap is the crowning piece of the kroj. It is covered with platinum wire threading and lace, and encrusted with garnets, glass beads, and sequins. It is lined with a rose-colored linen. This cap was worn by married women.On View
