DescriptionA kroj from Kyjov, Moravia that includes a blouse, vest, collar, petticoat, skirt and apron. The white blouse has puffed, elbow-length sleeves. A floral motif, embroidered in black threading, runs around the center of each sleeve and cuff. The cuff motif includes cut work. Bands of the same embroidery and cut work cover the remainder of each cuff, which are gathered and tied with red ribbon. The blouse has a gathered collar. The salmon-colored vest features white inserts in four small shapes on the front and one large shape on the back. Rectangular inserts on the front are lined with light blue ribbon and colored beads. Bead and sequin designs lie within these inserts, as well as in the triangular inserts at the vest's sides. A length of light blue ribbon runs along the bottom edges of all the inserts, roughly one inch from the bottom of the vest. Six buttons, painted a metallic gold, run down the front of the vest. The insert on the back is decorated in a similar way with larger floral designs made of beads and three red circles of fabric, all covered with embroidery, sequins and beads. The rectangular collar has black lace on three sides, the two short and one long. Black and white geometric and floral patterns mirror the lace, leaving only a small rectangular section still plain, white fabric. The patterns include cut work. The kroj's white petticoat is gathered at the waist and has bobbin lace around its hemline. The plain, red skirt has evenly spaced floral designs scattered throughout. The designs are embroidered in white, dark purple, green and light yellow threading. The skirt is gathered at the waist and its waistband is made of white machine embroidered ribbon covered with floral patterns in pink, yellow, dark purple, dark blue, and sea green threading. Finally, the region's characteristic plain, black apron covered with colorful floral and geometric embroidery is the centerpiece of this kroj. A narrow length of white and red bobbin lace runs down its center. Wide, white bobbin lace with red and green accents runs across its hemline.On View
